Letting Go: Some Tips on how to get started.

Letting go may be a challenging task because it often entails releasing things to which we have grown attached or which have had a big impact on our lives,  However, because it enables us to advance and make place for fresh encounters and personal development, it can also be a freeing and uplifting experience.

Here are some pointers on how to let go:

  • Create space to identify the things you need to let go of, and then spend some time reflecting on why you need to let them go. James Clear in "Atomic Habits" says  “Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.” So start small and identify one thing that you want to release from your life. This could be a habit like negative self-talk, a feeling that doesn't serve you such as "guilt" . . .
  • Embrace self-compassion: As you navigate the process of letting go, it's crucial to be kind to yourself. Recognize that it's natural to have a range of emotions, and give yourself permission to experience and deal with those emotions. Try using an affirmation deck that invites self-compassion or use an affirmation heart  that reminds you of why you want to let go.
  • Seek support: Surround yourself with individuals who will be there to support you as you go through this process, remind you of your goal, and encourage you along the way.
  • Take baby steps: It might be difficult to let go of something significant, so consider breaking it up into more manageable chunks. This can help you feel as though the process is more manageable and aid in your long-term progress.
  • Practice mindfulness: Recognize and accept the challenging feelings and situations that come with letting go. Try using mindfulness stacking stones that invites mindfulness and embracing the present moment.
